JOSH Ovens will make his first appearance since December 2012 when Bristol take on Clifton in the clubs’ traditional pre-season fixture this evening.

The 25-year-old flanker, who underwent microdiscectomy surgery in his lower back, has been training with Bristol without a contract since leaving Bath last season.

Ovens, who enjoyed a successful loan spell with Bristol in 2011-12, will start at No 8 as he continues his recovery from the long-term injury.

Bristol director of rugby Andy Robinson has selected a youthful squad for this evening’s fixture, with acting skipper Ross Johnston among the handful of established and experienced first-team players involved.

Full-back Auguy Slowik has recovered from a minor injury and starts alongside brother Lucas in the back-line, with Luke Baldwin and Ryan Edwards also starting.

Up front, hooker Johnston leads the side, while UWE lock Dale Lemon and Cardiff Metropolitan University flanker Jonathan Humphrys also start.

On the bench, experienced hooker Rhys Lawrence takes his place alongside Sonny Haines (Hornets RFC), Sam Pitchford (Weston RFC), Brad Kislingbury (University of Gloucestershire), Tim Turner (Durham University) and Andy Uren (SGS Filton College).

Entrance to this evening’s game is £5 for Clifton members and concessions, while under-16s and Clifton’s senior and junior players are free. Adult admission is £10.
